Haven't received your IP PIN?

The IRS is mailing IP PINs for 2026. If yours hasn't arrived yet, here's how to request it online.

An IP PIN (Identity Protection PIN) is a 6-digit code the IRS assigns each year to keep someone else from filing a return in your name. Without it, fraudulent e-filings get much harder.

How to check yours

  1. Sign in to your account at irs.gov.
  2. Verify your identity with ID.me (it's free and finishes in a few minutes).
  3. From the main menu you'll see your current-year IP PIN.

If you've never had one

Anyone can request an IP PIN — you don't have to be a victim of identity theft. It's free, extra security.

If you get an IRS letter about identity theft
